About Brain and Nervous
System
The brain and the
nervous system are at the core of all human existence on earth. Without it,
humans will not live the process of life. The brain is the most vital part in
the human body, because it can control the central nervous system in order to
work normally. The human brain consists of various parts, all of which have 100
billion nerves (neurons). To be able to beraktifitas well then humans also need
to maintain the existence of his brain well through the pattern of life is
right and healthy.
Symptoms
The nerves are grouped
into 3 parts:
- Sensory nerves. If there is an interference with the
sensory nerves, you may feel numbness, lack of taste, tingling, burning
skin, body aches, or more sensitive.
- Motor nerves. Damage to this nerve may make the body
weak, muscle shrink, paralysis of the limbs, paralysis of certain body
parts or twitches.
- Autonomic nerves. What you might experience if the
nerve is damaged include dry eyes, constipation, excessive sweating, dry
mouth, dizziness, unable to feel pain in the chest, bladder disturbances,
or intimateual dysfunction.
Cause
Diseases of the nervous
system are very diverse, including:
- Central nervous system infection
- Encephalitis
- Meningitis
- Parkinson's
- Alzheimer's
- Brain tumor
- Stroke
- Hydrocephalus
- Raye syndrome
- Epilepsy
- and others.
Risk factor
There are many
conditions that can make the nervous system damaged. This is related to the
health problems you experience such as:
- Systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
- Electrolyte disturbance.
- Addictions to alcohol or drugs.
- Impaired blood supply.
- Has experienced head and spine injuries.
- Exposed to toxic substances such as carbon monoxide or
arsenic.
Complications
Complications that can
occur depend on the underlying brain disease or neurological disorder. It can
be mild to severe such as coma and death.
Diagnosis
In examining
neurological diseases, history of disease data is important. Usually the
patient comes to the doctor at the time the illness is in progress, sometimes
even when the illness is healed and the complaints he suffered are residual
symptoms. In addition, there are also diseases whose symptoms occur at certain
times; so, in the form of an attack. Outside the attack, the sufferer is in
good health. If the patient comes to a doctor outside of an attack, it is
difficult for the doctor to make a diagnosis of the illness, except with the
help of the report presented by the patient (the anamnesis) and the person who
witnessed it (allo-anamnesis). Also required a general physical examination and
neurological examination to assess the presence or absence of interference in
the nervous system. Common investigations required are CT-Scan, MRI,
electroencephalogram (EEG), Electromyography (EMG), etc.
Treatment
Treatment depends on the
underlying brain disease or neurological disorder. Therapy consists of therapy
with drugs and non-drugs. In addition it is important to perform gradual
control.
Prevention
Prevention of disease in
the nervous system can be done by consuming healthy food, diligent exercise and
of course apply a healthy lifestyle.
